Apple wants developers to build up a subscription model for the usage of their apps. How much do they think a normal customer will spend on subscriptions each month? There’s already a plan with your provider and TCO for your iThings (e.g. Apple Care, battery replacement, screen repair, asset cost for a successor, etc).
How much are customers willing to pay each month?
Well, most of the apps installed by normal users will be free because they already pay with the personal data companies grab whenever you use their apps but sometimes even if you don’t use them.
Flash memory of iThings is quite expensive because Apple still charges the same 78 cents-per-gig (compared to 25 cents-per-gig costs) that it did in 2017. So it might be useful to think about a cloud storage plan.
For many people free plans offered by lots of providers maybe the right way to go. Although you should never forget that the ToS of all providers will tell you that your account can be cancelled without further notice. Others need hundreds or even thousands of GB.
If you don’t want a subscription and need lots of GBs pCloud maybe the right place for you.
The provider is a fast growing Swiss company which offers clients for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android with a very good UI.
2 TB iCloud is $9.99 per month
2 TB pCloud is $175 for lifetime
that means 99 years or the lifetime of the account holder, whichever is shorter.
If you use pCloud for 10 years the costs are:
iCloud … $1,198.80
pCloud … $175
The company also offers pCloud Drive, a desktop app, which makes it possible to work with your files as if they are on your computer, but without taking space from your local storage. It works as a virtual drive, which can extend the available space on your device with up to 2 TB. Once your files are in pCloud Drive, you will easily be able to access, edit and share with others.

It looks perfect but as always the coin has two sides. Apple doesn’t allow to use other clouds than iCloud to completely backup your iThing.
