Two Ecosystems

1 11 2013

Our planet is our ecosystem. Within this giant system there are many other, smaller ecosystems mostly bounded to companies. And there is a very special ecosystem developed by Apple and improved over decades.

Ecosystem by Wikipedia…

An ecosystem is a community of living organisms (plants, animals and microbes) in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment (things like air, water and mineral soil), interacting as a system. These biotic and abiotic components are regarded as linked together through nutrient cycles and energy flows. As ecosystems are defined by the network of interactions among organisms, and between organisms and their environment, they can be of any size but usually encompass specific, limited spaces, although some scientists say that the entire planet is an ecosystem).

Ecosystems are controlled both by external and internal factors. External factors such as climate, the parent material which forms the soil and topography, control the overall structure of an ecosystem and the way things work within it, but are not themselves influenced by the ecosystem.

Ecosystems are dynamic entities—invariably, they are subject to periodic disturbances. Ecosystems in similar environments that are located in different parts of the world can have very different characteristics simply because they contain different species.

The introduction of non-native species can cause substantial shifts in ecosystem function. Internal factors not only control ecosystem processes but are also controlled by them and are often subject to feedback loops.

Ecosystems provide a variety of goods and services upon which people depend; the principles of ecosystem management suggest that rather than managing individual species, natural resources should be managed at the level of the ecosystem itself.

Let’s transform this description.

Ecosystem by Apple …

Apple’s ecosystem is a community of employees and users in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment (things like an iPhone, an iPad, etc), interacting as a system. These biotic and abiotic components are regarded as linked together through nutrient cycles and information flows. As ecosystems are defined by the network of interactions among people, and between people and their environment, they can be of any size but usually encompass specific, limited spaces, although some fans say that the entire planet is an Apple ecosystem.

Ecosystems are controlled both by external and internal factors. External factors like shareholders, publishing media, and competitors like Samsung, do not control the overall structure of the ecosystem and the way things work within it, but are themselves influenced by the ecosystem.

Apple’s ecosystem is a dynamic entity, invariably, and is subject to periodic disturbances at Wall Street and elsewhere. Ecosystems in similar environments that are located in other companies can have very different characteristics simply because they contain different devices and operating systems. The comeback of former decision makers like that of Steve Jobs in 1996 can cause substantial shifts in ecosystem function.

Internal and external factors not only control ecosystem processes but are also controlled by them and often are subject to feedback loops, primarily between customers and Apple employees as well as CEOs.

Successful ecosystems provide a small variety of devices, operating systems, stores, and services upon which people *depend and rely*.
The principles of ecosystem management suggest that innovation should be managed at the level of the ecosystem itself without disturbances initiated by competitors.

For Apple users, heading into the iOS or OS X world is like walking into a securely developed fun park.

Outside this ecosystem Android may be a ubiquitous mobile offering. Android quickly becomes an exercise that requires a rather hefty learning curve. Nearly everything users want to do instantly becomes an investigative process. Printing, sharing files, piecing together productivity apps, communications/messaging tools, music, video, purchasing content from online offerings, fiddling around is the rule – not the exception – with Android devices.

Only Apple has the desktop, mobile and cloud solutions seamlessly intertwined, and at an increasing rate, freely given to its users. The gap between Apple and the competition is becoming wider with every Cook+Co. special event.

Conclusion …

Ecosystems in nature are destroyed by human beings. Technological ecosystems based on sustainability, innovation, and saying no to diversity survive and are the environment of satisfied customers.

A natural ecosystem already offers food, air, water, and energy, so does Apple in a transferred sense. Just move into it and the system takes care of you without the necessity to go the long way from elementary school to university.

Thanks for dropping by.
